Oranda Therapeutics

Building the foundations for NHS Evergreen Level 1

A newly established UK entity preparing for NHS procurement needed to understand the NHS Evergreen Assessment and build credible, proportionate evidence. I worked with Oranda to prepare its Carbon Reduction Plan, Modern Slavery Statement and wider ESG foundations. The published evidence supported its tender submission, and Oranda achieved Evergreen Level 1.

The starting point

What does Evergreen look like when you have only just started?

Oranda Therapeutics works to improve access to rare disease medicines. As it prepared for NHS tender opportunities, the team knew that Evergreen was something it needed to address. It needed help understanding what was required and how those requirements applied to a business at such an early stage.

Oranda Therapeutics UK Ltd was newly established and had no direct employees. The challenge was to set a credible starting point that reflected the UK entity’s structure while taking account of the wider pharmaceutical supply chain and the company’s developing European operations.

The approach

Make every statement real and relevant.

I worked with the team to interpret NHS Evergreen requirements against Oranda’s size, operating model and stage of development. In practical workshops, we tested what was happening in practice, what evidence existed and what the business could reasonably commit to next. The aim was a proportionate response the team could explain and build on, not a set of generic policies.

The Carbon Reduction Plan covered part of a year, using the available data and estimates for individual emissions categories where needed. The figures were not extrapolated to create a full year. I made the reporting period, boundaries and assumptions clear, establishing a transparent starting point and a framework for improving the evidence as the business grew.

The Modern Slavery Statement was grounded in detailed discussions about Oranda’s pharmaceutical supply chain. We followed the route from manufacturing in India, through entry via Malta and logistics in Ireland, to understand the different activities and partners involved. That detail shaped a statement relevant to Oranda’s actual business, with a clear distinction between arrangements already in place and actions to develop as it grew.

The work also supported discussions about assigning ESG ownership at board level and building a consistent approach as Oranda developed its European operations.

Understanding the supply chain

What we put in place

Evidence the team could use and build on.

The work brought together a Carbon Reduction Plan, a Modern Slavery Statement, ESG policy and objectives, and a practical sustainability roadmap, alongside support with Evergreen readiness and the submission.

These documents gave Oranda a connected starting point for sustainability, with priorities it could develop as its operations and evidence matured.

A framework to build on

Oranda's policy controls in the 2026 statement: board oversight, the Modern Slavery Statement and ESG Policy in place; supplier due diligence and supplier expectations in development; contract clauses, training and reporting to be embedded.
The 2026 statement distinguished controls already in place from those in development or still to be embedded, providing a clear starting point for future work. The result

Level 1 achieved. Foundations for the next stage.

The documents were approved, published on Oranda’s website and used in its tender. Its Evergreen submission achieved Level 1.

The team had a clearer understanding of the requirements, published evidence it could use in procurement and a framework for further improvement. Board-level ESG training was discussed as a possible next step, subject to internal capacity.
